Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2020, Volume 14, Issue 2,   Pages 501-517 doi: 10.1007/s11709-020-0610-y

Abstract: Qila Bala Hisar is one of the noteworthy places of Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The fort was constructed on a filled ground during the 18th century and it was renovated several times by the occupants ever since. Recently, due to an earthquake of magnitude 7.3, the upper part of the south-western wall of the fort collapsed. The collapse of the wall was attributed to the failure of the retained slope. This research was undertaken to characterize the slope material, study causal factors of failure and evaluate remedial strategy. The investigation involved conventional field and laboratory testing and geophysical investigation using electrical resistivity technique to evaluate the nature of stratum. Also, X-ray Diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscopy was used to study the slope material at a molecular level to evaluate the existence of swelling potential. The analysis has shown that excessive seepage of water caused by the poor maintenance of runoff and sewage drains is the causal factor triggered by the seismic event. A remedial strategy involving soil nails, micro piles and improvement of the surface drainage is recommended.

The Application and the Developing Direction of Forensic Toxicological Analysis

Liu Yao

Strategic Study of CAE 2002, Volume 4, Issue 9,   Pages 42-44

Abstract:

This article introduces two cases, in which the result of toxicological analysis provides the important clue to investigator and the evidence to the justice for one case, while the result of toxicological analysis provides the basis for emergency treatment methods for another case. The article introduces two problems of toxicological analysis during the extraction. One is the microanalysis, and the other is how to clear out the protein and fat from biological material. The article thinks that the present level of toxicological analysis for some techniques in China is near that of the developed country in the end of the 20th century, but the standard management is China lags behind. In the future, the development of toxicological analysis should be in accordance with domestic reguirement and aimed at new techniques in the world.

Multi-stage emergency medicine logistics system optimization based on survival probability

Ke WANG, Yixin LIANG, Lindu ZHAO

Frontiers of Engineering Management 2017, Volume 4, Issue 2,   Pages 221-228 doi: 10.15302/J-FEM-2017020

Abstract: Using sudden cardiac deaths as an example and maximizing survival rate as the goal, this paper studies the influence of multi-stage medical logistics system optimization on the survival rate of sudden illness. A distribution model of survival is built, drone and ambulance arrival probability over time are discussed, a formula is proposed for maximum possible survival rate based on the probability of emergency medical logistics reaching the patient, and the results are analyzed using empirical data fitting distribution and numerical experiments performed with the model. The model is discussed as a reference point for management decision making by changing model parameters. Results show that compared to using current ambulance vehicles, ambulance drones delivering medical equipment for first aid on-site in emergencies can significantly increase survival rate, and the effect of collaborative multi-stage logistics optimization is better than that of any single stage logistics response optimization. Simulation results show that the medical rescue logistics service radius, speed, loading capacity and performance of ambulance drones impact the probability of survival, and there is an optimal service radius depending on the shape of probability distribution, which provides new information for management decisions.
